Boyd's first inning featured some of his best stuff, using changeups to get weak outs against Andrew McCutchen and Jean Segura, before his slider struck out Harper swinging. His second inning, despite allowing two singles, put his fielding skills on display. He took care of a Didi Gregorius bunt and picked off Brad Miller. Boyd gave up a solo home run to Jeff Mathis in the third, but bounced back with strikeouts of McCutchen (curveball) and Harper (slider). He used 50 pitches — 31 strikes — and his fastball sat between 92-94 mph.

In this week’s grapefruit league action, Molina had some fun at the Houston Astros’ expense. The 38-year-old dared Houston non-roster invitee Jose Siri to try to steal on him. The result was hilarious yet predictable, with Yadi throwing out Siri by a solid margin.
